About the Nikko Toshogu Yomeimon Gate
The Yomeimon is a magnificent, iconic structure of the Nikko Toshogu Shrine, rebuilt between 1634 and 1636 under the order of the third Tokugawa shogun, Iemitsu.

Designated as a National Treasure of Japan in June 1951, it was also registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in December 1999. Renowned for its intricate carvings and breathtaking ornamentation, the Yomeimon is celebrated as a masterpiece built with the finest craftsmanship and decorative technologies of the Edo period.
