About Kofukuji Five-Storied Pagoda
Kofuku-ji Temple was built in 710.
"Five-storied Pagoda", "Three-storied Pagoda", "Northern Round Hall" and "Eastern Golden Hall" are all designated as national treasures. The five-storied pagoda is especially famous as a symbol of ancient Nara.
Kofukuji Temple, which prospered with the rise of Fujiwara clan, was burned in 1180, and most of the temples and towers were lost. However, the temple was destroyed by the second big fire.
The current tower is the sixth generation tower completed in 1426. The large tower, which is 50.1 meters tall, is the second highest tower in the country.
