The King of All Buddhas: The Magnificent Dainichi Nyorai
In Esoteric Buddhism, Dainichi Nyorai is the principal deity regarded as the center of the universe and the embodiment of truth itself.
While other Tathagata statues are depicted in simple, unadorned forms, Dainichi Nyorai, the King of All Buddhas, is portrayed in a resplendent form adorned with a jeweled crown and necklaces. The unique mudra, in which the index finger of the left hand is grasped by the right hand, is known as the “Chikenin (Fist of Wisdom Mudra),” specific to the Vajradhatu Dainichi Nyorai, and symbolizes the Buddha’s unwavering wisdom.
Ismu’s Meticulous Craftsmanship
Three professionals have collaborated to produce a standard-sized replica of the National Treasure Seated Dainichi Nyorai statue housed at Enjo-ji Temple.
The original model was created by Takaya Fujimagari, who crafted the replica currently enshrined in Enjo-ji Temple’s Tahoto Pagoda, while the color coordination was handled by Chihiro Takakura, who has over thirty years of experience in Buddhist statue painting.
Furthermore, with Tsutomu Yamamoto—a leading authority on Unkei—serving as general supervisor, we meticulously recreated every detail, from the unique posture with the upper body leaning backward and the delicate carving of the hair strands to the lifelike texture of the soles of the feet. Although sales ended in 2019, we have revived it as a standard product in response to numerous requests for its return.
